O2 eRedCap Coverage

O2 UK, operating as part of Virgin Media O2 (VMO2), is developing 5G Standalone infrastructure. VMO2 has committed to 5G SA as part of its network investment programme, with SA coverage developing alongside the wider UK operator rollout.

O2 / VMO2 5G SA Status

O2 has significant 5G NSA coverage across the UK. The transition to 5G SA – the core network architecture required for eRedCap – is in progress. VMO2 has the infrastructure investment scale and spectrum holdings to support SA deployment as it progresses through 2025-2027.

O2 and eRedCap Planning

For IoT deployments targeting O2’s network, the 5G SA timeline is the primary planning variable. O2’s SA commercial readiness for eRedCap-specific services will develop as the broader UK 5G SA ecosystem matures. Dual-mode device designs carrying LTE Cat-1bis alongside eRedCap capability provide the most robust approach for O2-targeted deployments during the transition period.
