Vodafone UK has committed to 5G Standalone as its strategic network direction, with 5G SA coverage expanding through 2025-2026. Vodafone is live with 5G SA in a growing number of UK locations and has confirmed RedCap (Release 17) as part of its 5G IoT roadmap.
Vodafone 5G SA Status
Vodafone UK has live 5G SA infrastructure. As a member of the Vodafone Group, the UK operation benefits from global 5G SA investment and technology transfer across the group’s European networks. Vodafone has been active in publicising 5G SA milestones and has run RedCap proof-of-concept programmes.
Vodafone and RedCap (Release 17)
Vodafone UK is confirmed with live 5G SA supporting Release 17 RedCap operation. Vodafone has been among the more active UK operators in trialling and publicising RedCap capabilities.
Vodafone and eRedCap (Release 18)
eRedCap devices will operate on Vodafone’s existing 5G SA network when hardware becomes available. No network-side upgrade is required – eRedCap is purely a device-side specification change.
